It’s been a week since I arrived in my new home and I’ve got to say, I’m absolutely loving it!
I feel so comfortable and at ease here, however I have to admit that I’ve had moments were I’ve felt lost or unsettled. I have been doing a few things to help me feel more at home and settled for those moments when I’m feeling a little out of sorts.
I thought that other people might benefit from me sharing my experience.
- Make your space a safe haven.
For me I light candles, have everything neat and organised. I find that this offers me a place to feel comfortable and relaxed. I have also been setting up fairy lights around my mirror as thats where I put my makeup on. I like to read before going to sleep, so I ensure that I have my Kindle, a couple of candles, a nice throw. I try and always set my pyjamas out before I go to bed. Creating this space, for me at least gives me a chance to unwind from the day.
- Establish a routine!
I find it so difficult to stick to meal times. The boyfriend and I have been trying to meal plan a lot so we can fit meals around work and things. I’ve been trying to get up at the same time everyday, I have found this has been a huge help to my mood too. Since I’m not going to the gym anymore, I’ve been trying to fit at least 20 minutes of yoga into my day too. Not having a job can really start to make you feel like the days and hours are blending into one big long day, I’ve tried to add as much structure to my day as possible. (I’ve just got a job today so, I should have to worry about this too much now!)
- Look after yourself!
Moving to a new place can be a scary thing. Even if you are staying in the same area, it can still be quite daunting. Make yourself that full fat hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Eat that pack of cookies thats been on your mind since you moved in. Get into bed and binge on Netflix shows with a cuppa tea by your side. This is your space and you deserve to enjoy it.
So those are my three tips for when you’re moving house. To be fair even if you’re not moving house and you just want to feel more comfortable in your surroundings, these tips are also useful.
