Christmas MUST reads.

Welcome to Blogmas day 15.

I’ve really been into reading this year. I thought it would only be right to get some cool Christmassy books to read this year.

I actually read ‘The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily’ last Christmas and I loved it. I’ve read it again this year too. I have a feeling that it’s going to become a book that I read every year.

I always picked up:

  • Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery
  • One Christmas Kiss in Notting Hill
  • Sleigh Rides and Silver Bells at the Christmas Fair

I’m currently making my way through these at the minute. I’m loving them so far. I think I’m going to make it part of my Christmas tradition that I buy new Christmas books every year.

It really puts me in a festive mood!

Have you read any Christmas books? Any recommendations?

Dogs Love Christmas Too!

Welcome to Blogmas day 14.

How’s your December going?

Who else has bought some Christmassy treats for their pets? Penny (my parents cocker spaniel) has been spoilt this year. I’ve bought her an advent calendar (I will be honest, I think she is getting far too used to having a doggy chocolate in the mornings)

I also picked up some doggy mince pies from The Range. Penny loves them!

Pets are apart of the family, why shouldn’t they experience the gift giving too?

Are you buying your pets anything special this Christmas?

Christmas Origami.

Welcome to Blogmas day 13!

There are so many creative Christmas origami things you can make.

Last year I made some envelopes, hearts and bookmarks so I decided that I would do a few new things this year. I have also made some of the traditional snowflakes too, my mum will be using them as decorations around the house. I’m sure that I will post a picture on my Instagram.

This Christmas I have spent a lot of time doing origami. I find it so therapeutic and of course, it looks great around the house. I’ve been making bits and bobs to pin onto my inspiration board that I have next to my bed.

I’m sure that I will be posting lots of origami images over on my Instagram in the next few weeks so be sure to check them out.

Have you made any Christmas origami?

Festive Hot Drinks.

Welcome back to Blogmas day 12.

Today I’m going to be sharing with you some of my favourite festive homemade hot chocolates.

  • 1/2 cup of whole milk
  • 5oz of chopped chocolate
  • 1/4 heavy cream (you can add, but I decided not to)
  • Topping and sauce

Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetProcessed with VSCO with hb2 preset20171212_163549273_iOS

I used the same chocolate recipe and I changed the toppings and syrups to suit the taste of what I wanted.

I topped the hot chocolates off with Christmas sprinkles or different sauces. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think there is anything better than a drinking a hot chocolate and cozying up on the sofa watching a Christmas film.

What I love about making hot chocolates is that you can literally add anything you want to them.

Over this Christmas the hot chocolates I’m wanting to make are:

  • gingerbread
  • mint
  • peppermint
  • orange

I’m literally so excited to see how they turn out.

Make sure you’re following me on Instagram (@paint_me_a_smile_) to see all things Christmas related! I’m obsessed!

Thank you very much for reading this post.

What drinks do you like to make at Christmas time?

The Perfect Lush Bath This Christmas.

Welcome back to Blogmas day 11!

Every year for as long as I can remember I have always looked forward to seeing the new (and old) products that Lush bring out around Christmas time.

When I was away in South Korea a couple of years ago, I was really disappointed, firstly because my apartment didn’t have a bath. Secondly, because Lush was so expensive in Korea!

So now that I’m back, I can fully indulge in what might be Lush’s best Christmas products year yet! I am so in love with some of the things they have brought out this year.

I mean, how beautiful do these products look?

I know that I’m going to be having plenty of Lush baths this Christmas.

How about you? Which Lush products are you loving this Christmas?

Festive Nails.

Welcome back to Blogmas day 10.

I don’t know about you but I’m so excited for Christmas! We’ve only got 14 more days to go!

Today I want to share with you the nail varnishes that I picked up from Superdrug for this Christmas. Now, unfortunately, I work in a place where I’m not able to wear nail polish to work. Therefore when I have a few days off from work, I really make an effort to paint my nails at any chance I get.

I’ve really been looking forwards for shops to bring out their Christmas ranges of Christmas nail colours. I’m in love with these two!

These are my two Christmas colours for this year!

What colour nails will you be wearing this Christmas?

Christmas Shopping.

Welcome to Blogmas day 9.

I’m about three quarters through my Christmas shopping now. Over the next couple of days I do need to go online and order some last minute things. Other than that, I’m pretty much finished!

One of the things I love most about Christmas is the atmosphere. People just seem so much happier. The shops are much busier. There are lots of shops promoting new gifts ideas. And, of course we cannot forget about stopping off for a cheeky coffee in Starbucks for one of their new Christmas drinks.

I know that ordering gifts online is so much more convenient, however I do like to go into the shops the majority of time. I like looking at things properly. I like to take my time when it comes to picking gifts for people. Also, there is a heightened chance that you will spot something great that you weren’t originally looking for. But when it comes to Christmas, is that necessarily a bad thing? Haha!

Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?

My Christmas Starbucks Order.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Welcome back to Blogmas day 8!

The only thing I love more than Christmas, is coffee. I’m obsessed. I couldn’t wait for the moment that Starbucks realised their Christmas drinks list. Also, are their take out cups just adorable?

I have group therapy every Friday morning, and as a treat for going I always buy myself a Starbucks drink afterwards.

My favourite drink is the Toffee Nut Latte. It is beautiful! It’s just the right blend of coffee mixed with Christmas, just perfect!

My current order is a large Toffee Nut Latte! Yes large, because it’s treat! Haha.

I would also recommend the fudge hot chocolate too. It’s also great!

What are your favourite drinks from coffee shops?

My Favourite Christmas Baking Recipe.

Welcome to Blogmas day 7. Today I want to share with you my favourite Christmas recipe. At Christmas time I really love to bake cookies rather than just cupcakes.

This year I have been making festive vanilla cookies!

Here’s the recipe that I have used to make these:

  • 250g all purpose flour
  • 125g self-raising flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 250g unsalted butter
  • 125g superfine sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Bake at 200c (Gas 6) for 12-16 minutes.

I feel that this recipe is fantastic for all year round cookies.

I finished the cookies off by using some easy roll green icing. I used the same cookie cutters as I used to make the cookies to cut the tree shapes out of the icing.

Lastly, I used some icing pens to decorate the rest of the trees. I let them set then they were ready to enjoy!

What is your favourite Christmas baking recipe?

A Cosy Winter Evening.

Welcome back to Blogmas day 6!

The winter evenings are definitely getting colder recently! Most days I can’t wait to come home from work and get into a warm bath.

I’ve really been loving Lush’s Christmas collection! The Shoot for the Stars bath bomb is the perfect bath bomb for a cosy Christmas evening bath!

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset20171019_203927622_iOS

I could spend at least an hour in the bath if I’m reading a good book.

I love the colours in this bath bomb. I much prefer the bath bombs that have deeper colours and/or blues rather than the lighter and more vibrant colours. I guess I find them more cosy.

More often than not I will light a few candles around the bath. I’ve been lighting a apple spice and cinnamon candle, it smells so Christmassy.

To me, this is the perfect cosy winter evening. I find it so relaxing. I tend to do this on evenings when I don’t have work the next morning.

How would you describe your perfect cozy winter evening?
