What Have I been Up To?

Hey there, I hope that you’re having a great Sunday. It’s been such a long time since I’ve posted here. Life has just kinda got in the way and the more time that has passed, the more and more I felt anxious about posting.

I guess I should start by doing a re-cap about what I’ve been up to.

Christmas was amazing. Josh and I spent our first Christmas in our own place. We went to Josh’s mum’s house in the afternoon and we also stayed over. We played lots of family games, ate lots of good food and we also exchanged presents. On boxing day we went to Ramsgate to spend the day with Josh’s dads side of the family. We had a late Christmas with my family early Jan.

We went to a New Years Eve party which was so much fun. We played lots of games and maybe one or two glasses of Prosecco. Lol.

I spent January working out in the gym, working lots of hours at work and working on some of my new years resolutions. I will talk about them in a post early next week.

Last week I had a long awaited operation on my foot so I’ve been resting up whilst it heals. So that means, no walks, no gym and pretty much not doing anything for at least the first week. I’m back at the hospital tomorrow and hopefully they will be removing the cast and fitting a shoe so I will be able to walk on it.

But yeah, I just thought I would check in and say hey. Let me know what you’ve been up to and if you’ve set any new years resolutions. I would love to know what you guys are challenging yourselves to do this year!

Much love,

My Favourite Personality Trait

Self improvement – Striving for Development

I’ve wrote about this topic quite a lot on my blog over the past couple of months. I want to constantly be improving myself. I want to constantly be moving forward, trying new things and improving myself.

A few weeks ago someone said to me, for a 23 year old, you’ve ‘done a lot of stuff’. Since then, I’ve been thinking about what they actually meant by that, as in my eyes, I’ve not done ‘enough’. I feel that I should have achieved more by this age.

I guess I’m just too hard on myself for my own good sometimes.

I started to describe my self improvement trait as ‘itchy feet’. I want to be constantly moving. The concept of being ‘fed up’ or doing the same thing just scares the living shit out of me. But with all that being said, I’m also afraid of change. Kind of ironic isn’t it?

I just don’t like ‘standing still’ metaphorically speaking. There has to be a purpose. Before I went to South Korea, I worked a crappy job but it was all with a purpose in mind. I worked and worked and worked to save money to move away. And I did it.

This is my favourite personality trait. I like this about myself. I always want more. I don’t want to settle. I always want to keep striving for new experiences.

What is your favourite personality trait?

Five Things I Like About Myself – Gratitude Challenge.

Firstly, I’m so so so so so sorry that this post is a day late. This week has just been crazy busy, and it’s only Wednesday. I made it one of my goals at the beginning of 2017 to build on my self-confidence. So recently, I’ve taken up a yoga class among some other things. I’ve been feeling really great in myself. I’m incredibly happy with the progress I’ve been making.

Here are some of the things that I appreciate about myself.

  1. Shy:
Being a shy person definitely has pros and cons. But, I’m glad that I’m quite a shy person. I used to think that there was something wrong with being shy. But as I get older I’ve come to understand that there is nothing wrong with it, it’s just who I am.
  2. Problem Solver:
I’m a great problem solver. Admittedly, I am the type of person that kind of freaks out at first especially if it’s something I wasn’t expecting. But after that, I work as hard as I can to solve the problem.
  3. Caring:
I care about people. I care about people maybe too much sometimes. I tend to care about other people more than I care about myself. This is something I’m trying to change. However I don’t want to change the fact that I do care about others too.
  4. Passionate:
I’m a passionate person. I care about the things that I do. When I start something, I give it my all. I like this about myself. I’m really passionate about the things I do.
  5. Proactive:
This is something that I feel really strong about. If there is something that I cannot stand is not being proactive. If something is bothering me, I try to fix it. If I had a bad day, I will look and take the time to do things that will make that bad day into a good one. If something goes wrong, I try to understand where I went wrong and I try and fix the mistake. There is no point in sitting feeling sorry for myself and complaining about something I can try and change. I like to be pro-active.

How about you? What are some of the things that you like about yourself?

Gratitude Challenge – X3 People

For this weeks gratitude challenge I wanted to express gratitude to three people in particular who are in my life right now.

In no particular order:

  • Georgia
Georgia is my sister. I find her inspirational. She stands up for what she believes in. She knows exactly what she wants and she just goes for it. I like that! There is nothing more I admire about person than being driven and passionate.
  • Sammie
Sammie is one of my best friends. I’ve known her for so long. She’s always there for me. I’m so grateful to call her one of my best friends.
  • Cait
I met Cait whilst I was living in South Korea. I feel that over the past year we’ve become quite close. When I have things on my mind that I want to talk about she is one of the people that I turn to. I really admire the things that she has experienced.

Gratitude Challenge – The City I Live In.

I’ve always lived in a small town. Some people call it a village. Growing up I didn’t like it. It was too small. I felt like I didn’t fit in. I wanted to live in a bigger place, somewhere that had a bigger population. More shops. More coffee shops to drink at. More things to see.

When my family moved here when I was 13 years old, I didn’t like it. I wanted to move.

I made the most of it as I grew up.

When I moved to South Korea for a year. I wasn’t looking forward to returning to the small town that I had grown up in. Therefore I considered moving straight to London.

Long story short, I moved back home.

After been away for a while it allowed me to really appreciate the place that I grew up in. I found myself appreciating the smallness of the town. How it felt nice walking around the small streets that felt so familiar. The overwhelming memories I felt as I walked some of the route I used to take to high school. It was weird but nice at the same time.

I love how small the town is. The quaint shops that we have. The cosy little tea shops. I’m not sure that a city is the place for me. Maybe someday though.

I always wanted to live in New York.

It was my dream place to live.

Maybe someday. But for now, I’m very happy to stay here 🙂

There is nothing that I love more than receiving handwritten letters. I love them! There is just something just so personal about them.

You can tell that the person has thought about what they’ve written.

When I was teaching in South Korea last year some of my students used to write me letters. It was the cutest thing ever. It made me smile so much to see that the children had taken so much time to sit down and write a letter to me in English. Super adorable. ❤

With the amount of social media and messaging apps available nowadays, it’s so nice and refreshing to receive a hand written letter. It makes me feel so grateful when I received them. 🙂

Thank you for reading. ❤

Gratitude Challenge – A Family Member.

A few weeks ago I had a job interview. During the interview the interviewer asked me who I have in my life that inspires me. I answered:

My mum.

My mum is someone that I’ve looked up to for a long time. I admire how honest, courageous and caring she is.

I think that being a mother is the hardest job in the world. There isn’t a perfect mother handbook that comes with your child when he/she is born. A parent has to do and protect their child however they feel is best.

I really value the relationship that myself and my mum have. I can talk to her about pretty much anything. When something is wrong, she is the person that I turn to.

I think that my mum is

and more.

“Mum, thank you for being the most amazing mum anyone could have ever asked for.”

Gratitude Challenge – Family.

To me, family is really important. I come from a small family, but a close one. We get along most of the time. I enjoy Christmas the most, it’s gives us a time to come together and be a family.

Growing up, I always felt supported. From the age of 13 I wanted to be a filmmaker. My family put with the aggravation of me turning the house into a movie set every chance I got. Not to mention the bags of flour I poured over the dining room table for a shoot. (I was shooting a supernatural pilot episode) I thought I was remaking Buffy The Vampire Slayer or something. As well as the fake eyeballs I cut up, filled with fake blood (I found a simple recipe online) What can I say? I was a dark minded teenager. Watching too many horror movies mixed with a creative imagination. I’m sure there are plenty more things that I’ve forgotten.

My family must have been so sick of hearing me say the words “Can you watch this?”, “Please just watch one more time”. “Is it possible to borrow for kitchen for the afternoon.” What can I say, studio spaces are so expensive. I was grateful for all of the opinions you gave me about my work.

Thanks to my family, they allowed me the freedom to ‘express my art’. I also appreciate the support they gave me support and courage to finish school, go on to University, graduate and live in South Korea for a year. I really appreciate the love and support.

Of course every family has their problems, ours was no exception. But despite everything, we always come back together.

Thank you ❤
