Coffee Adventure – Eleto Chocolate Cafe.

Hello there, and welcome back to another coffee adventure post. A couple of weeks ago I decided that I would visit Eleto Chocolate Cafe in Canterbury. After many recommendations from a friend of mine I decided that I needed to visit and see for myself what this cafe was all about.

As I arrived it was quite busy outside and downstairs. I took a menu from the counter and made my way upstairs.

First impressions? Kinda quirky and rustic and definitely a place I could get some writing work done. It reminds me of a coffee shop I used to go to a lot during my time at University. I want to visit there again at some point, maybe next year.

I managed to get a window seat, I scanned the menu and omg! I was so spoilt for choice. I wanted something sweet and full of chocolate because after all this was the chocolate cafe. I ordered a Belgium Waffle and a cappuccino. When it arrived I was immediately taken to chocolate heaven, no exaggeration! It was so sweet and was just what I wanted. The cappuccino was on point too!

It will definitely be a place that I will be visiting again. I also picked up some chocolates and truffles to take home with me. They were divine!

Next time I visit I want to try one of their milkshakes and maybe some cake. They also have a branch in Folkestone so I might visit that one next!

Coffee Adventure – The Curious Cupcake Cafe.

20180830_124310

Hello and welcome back to another Coffee Adventure post.

For this post I decided that I would take a trip over to Margate and visit The Curious Cupcake Cafe. I’ve been wanting to visit here for the past year.

Upon arrival, I managed to snag a window seat. I took out the menu and decided what I wanted to order. Of course, I knew that cake was going to be my number 1 choice!

The interior was very cosy and welcoming. Big thumbs up for the fairy lights around the room! As I made my way up to the classic counter that I had seen oh so many times over on their Instagram. There was quite a large range of cakes, snacks and cupcakes.

After much indecisiveness from me, I decided that I would order a chai latte I’m so obsessed right now, a piece of coffee cake and a chocolate cupcake. The staff were so friendly and offered for me to take a seat and they would bring my food to me.

I so wanted to love this place, but if I’m completely honest it just didn’t live up to my expectations. I felt that the cake was very dry and maybe store bought. The cupcake too I felt was dry and claggy. As a baker myself, I just expected more.

I really don’t want this post to be a negative one, I just feel that I wanted to share my experience.

When I visited it was very busy. I feel that it’s the type of place that you wouldn’t visit alone. I’m all about taking a good book or my laptop and just powering through work or reading. I did get my book out for a while though. I just didn’t feel that this was a place that you could do that very comfortably. Or maybe it was the time that I visited?

I would visit again, however next time I wouldn’t go alone. Next time I would probably branch out and grab myself some lunch too, their sandwiches looked lovely!

Coffee Adventure – Hessian Coffee Company.

20180904_155830

Hello and welcome back to another Coffee Adventure post. This weeks post is a little different in the sense that I will be sharing with you some coffee that I have recently received, rather than a coffee shop. It’s still an adventure though!

I have followed Hessian Coffee Company for a while on Instagram and they’ve been a company that I’ve wanted to work with for some time. I’m very excited to have received these sample packs for me to try!

Okay, lets jump straight in!

Out of the three I definitely preferred the Bourbon Select and the Espresso Reserve. I feel that they were a bit sweeter. I have a very sweet tooth and the espresso No.1 was just a little too bitter for me.

I brewed the coffee for about 4-5 minutes.
I added a drop of caramel. Because why not?
Foamed a bit of milk and I was ready to indulge.

It made the perfect morning coffee to kick start my day!

I love that the Bourbon Select already had that hint of caramel, it was certainly enjoyable. Although, I do have to admit that the Espresso Reserve would easily become my everyday coffee.

I also used this coffee to make cold brews too and it was delicious.

It you are feeling super adventurous and want to make your own cold brew a little more creamy and luxurious, try this!

Ready?

  1. Brew your coffee as normal.
  2. Get your blender ready.
  3. Scoop a serving of vanilla ice cream in into the blender. (use milk as a lower calorie alternative) soya milk also works great!
  4. Add a couple of ice cubes.
  5. A drop of syrup.
  6. Add your desired amount of coffee to the blender.
  7. And. MIX!

And that’s it! It’s kind of like a homemade Frappuccino.

Give it a go, and if you do, be sure to tag me in your pictures over on my Instagram. @paint_me_a_smile_

I got a few questions last week asking why am I trying different types of coffee and traveling so much to different coffee shops?

Firstly, I love coffee! Like so so so much. And, I love coffee shops! I’ve always done this amount of coffee drinking and coffee shop going it’s just, I’ve never talked about it as much. (I don’t think…)

Secondly, it’s probably no secret to the people around me but in the next year or so, I will hopefully opening my own coffee and cake shop. It’s a project I have been working on for so long and I want to get it right. That means, the best coffee, the best location and I am in the best place possible to do it right.

Thirdly, I’ve wanted to do a coffee shop adventure type series on this blog for a while. I just decided now was the best time to do it.

I hope that you enjoyed this post and if you have any question coffee related or not feel free to drop me a message.

Are you a coffee shop owner or manager or does your company make coffee, I would love to work with you!

A massive thank you to Neil over at Hessian Coffee Company for kindly sending me these samples (I still have the tea bags, I will review them over on my Instagram very soon)

Stay tuned for next weeks Coffee Adventure post.

Here’s a hint about next weeks post: …Margate!

Much love and happy coffee drinking,

Coffee Adventure @ The Little Kitchen, Dover.

Hello and welcome back to the Coffee Adventure series.

Today I would like to share with you a lovely little coffee shop in Dover, South East Kent. I’ve been here quite a few times now and each time I fall more and more in love with this place.

20180606_134106747_iOS

Last week when I visited I decided that I would grab a pastry and my usual cappuccino. All together it was just over £3.00. What a bargain!

The Little Kitchen has such a friendly vibe. The atmosphere is so welcoming and relaxing that it makes you want to come back. I spent the majority of my visit planning Christmas projects (yes, I know it’s early haha) and reading my book. I’m currently reading Catcher by Kalyn Nicholson. I’m loving it so far!

The cappuccino here is lovely! They have a wide range of vegan and gluten free options too which is great! All homemade! As a baker myself, I truly appreciate this!

I can’t wait to go back, I’ve been eyeing up their all day breakfasts.

I’ve only been in Dover for 6 months, and this is a coffee shop that I want to go back to time and time again.

Coffee Adventure @ The Fig, Hastings.

Hello and welcome to the first post of the Coffee Adventure series!

I love coffee, and I love traveling and discovering new places. For a while now I’ve been contemplating creating a series like this. After many conversations with the people around me, I decided to delve right in.

A few weeks ago my partner and I decided to go and explore Hastings for the day. We took the train from Dover, changed at Ashford International and an hour and a half later we arrived. It was my first time visiting Hastings, I was excited as my partner had been raving about the mini golf courses for a good part of a year!

After a stop off at a gorgeous fish and chips shop and a lengthy round of mini golf (mostly because I’m terrible! Haha) we made our way through the old town. There are a lot (and I mean, A LOT) of sweet shops.

Before I visit a new place I spend a good amount of time looking on trip advisor to see what coffee shops are about. I read about The Fig a while back and I was super excited when we came across it as we were walking through.

20180808_122945

We walked in and immediately I was in love. When I talk about coffee shops, I talk about the ‘coffee shop experience’. I’m a big believer, when you go to a coffee shop, it is an experience! It’s about how you feel when you’re there. It’s about the friendly smiles and light conversations with the barista’s. It’s about the carefully placed decorations around the shop. The paper menus! The cups and saucers. The fig has a lot of plants in their shop, and I loved that! It makes the space just so welcoming and fresh.

I ordered my usual cappuccino and my partner ordered a fresh juice. As we were paying I noticed a bag of their house-blend coffee, I picked some of that up too. (I will be posting a review of that very soon) The lady gestured for us to take a seat.

*Cue Instagram picture time*

There were quite a few people in as we arrived. I took myself over to the window seat, there is something very therapeutic about people watching. The use of space in The Fig was impressive. They cleverly used window seating mixed with a table and chairs to maximise the space.

Our drinks arrived and I was almost giddy! Trying new coffee just gets me so excited and enthusiastic. Plus, they had this beautiful F design for the chocolate sprinkles on top of the cappuccino. I also want to try and get my hands on some of the cups and saucers they had, they were gorgeous!

The coffee was beautifully presented. The foam was on point! And the coffee, oh my! I added a little sugar. It was… dare I say, dreamy? Haha! I was so overjoyed that I had decided to pick up their house-blend. (Good decision, Hannah!)

Overall, the experience was lovely! It will definitely be the coffee shop I go back to when visiting Hastings! I truly recommend you pop in here, you will not be disappointed!

Must Have Monday.

Hello hello! I hope you all had a good weekend!

20180805_202410

For this weeks Must Have Monday post I am sharing with you the caramel syrup I’m currently using for my at home coffees. For those who don’t know, I work in a coffee shop, but when I’m not there, I do like to continue my coffee drinking when I get home! lol!

Caramel is my ultimate favourite, but I do love vanilla and other syrups too!

Happy Coffee Drinking! Please share your coffee pictures with me on Instagram. Tag me: @paint_me_a_smile_

The Two Month Update.

I’ve lived here two months already? I can’t believe how fast it’s gone. I feel pretty much all settled in now.

Work is going well. Josh and I are doing great. I’m feeling quite independent and empowered which is great. I think because I moved out then moved back in with my family a couple of times in the past, I forgot how great it is to have my own space and my own routine. I mean, don’t get me wrong I miss my family though, especially my sisters sarcastic jokes!

All in all I’m so happy that I’ve made the move!

I haven’t really talked about on here what happened with my therapy sessions and why I quit. There are a lot of things that I want to write on here that I feel that I can’t right now so I will keep this very basic. Moving away was needed for a number of reasons. Firstly, because of mines and Josh’s relationship. Secondly, I needed to grow as a person (as cliche as that sounds!) I needed to step out of my comfort zone. Although I’ve moved away before, 5,489 miles to be exact! There was something different about this move. I wasn’t running away as I had done previously. It was about building upon the life I had learned to love. For a long time I would use the phrase “I want to start a fresh, or a new life.” But this time, it has been more about moving to a place that I liked the look of, with a person that I love dearly. It’s about sharing and creating a life with Josh as well as making myself proud of who I am and what I have and will achieve.

We only live one life and I want to make it my absolute mission to live it!

I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’ve been in and out of therapy for as long as I can remember and right now I want to live in the present. I don’t want to talk about the past. I do have a lot I need to work on and I do have a lot of things (mostly OCD habits) that affect me daily. But! I’m working on it. There have been many times (especially this week) that I’ve had to sit myself down because I’ve stressed myself out that much about work, about cleaning, about the things I should have done. I care… I just care and obsess about things a little too much sometimes. I will start therapy again, maybe in a couple of months.

I’ve started getting back into exercising and doing yoga. I’ve started taking more time to rest and have self-reflection time. I want to get back into daily reading and drawing. In fact, I have a day off today so I might just do some painting after I’ve cleaned the apartment.

I feel like I’m rambling a bit now. So to sum these two months up? Great! Eventful! Busy! And overwhelmed by just how welcoming and loving the people around me are.

I hope you’re all having a fantastic weekend. Remember to check back tomorrow to see what I’ve chosen for next weeks Monday Must Have.

Making Your Home a Safe Haven.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

It’s been a week since I arrived in my new home and I’ve got to say, I’m absolutely loving it!

I feel so comfortable and at ease here, however I have to admit that I’ve had moments were I’ve felt lost or unsettled. I have been doing a few things to help me feel more at home and settled for those moments when I’m feeling a little out of sorts.

I thought that other people might benefit from me sharing my experience.

  • Make your space a safe haven.
For me I light candles, have everything neat and organised. I find that this offers me a place to feel comfortable and relaxed. I have also been setting up fairy lights around my mirror as thats where I put my makeup on. I like to read before going to sleep, so I ensure that I have my Kindle, a couple of candles, a nice throw. I try and always set my pyjamas out before I go to bed. Creating this space, for me at least gives me a chance to unwind from the day.
  • Establish a routine!
I find it so difficult to stick to meal times. The boyfriend and I have been trying to meal plan a lot so we can fit meals around work and things. I’ve been trying to get up at the same time everyday, I have found this has been a huge help to my mood too. Since I’m not going to the gym anymore, I’ve been trying to fit at least 20 minutes of yoga into my day too. Not having a job can really start to make you feel like the days and hours are blending into one big long day, I’ve tried to add as much structure to my day as possible. (I’ve just got a job today so, I should have to worry about this too much now!)
  • Look after yourself!
Moving to a new place can be a scary thing. Even if you are staying in the same area, it can still be quite daunting. Make yourself that full fat hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Eat that pack of cookies thats been on your mind since you moved in. Get into bed and binge on Netflix shows with a cuppa tea by your side. This is your space and you deserve to enjoy it.

So those are my three tips for when you’re moving house. To be fair even if you’re not moving house and you just want to feel more comfortable in your surroundings, these tips are also useful.

Let me know what tricks and tips you have for making your space feel comfortable.

My First Few Days In Kent.

It’s been a busy week this week and it’s only Wednesday!

On Monday I moved all the way from my parent’s house in Hull all the way down to Dover. My boyfriend and I have got a flat here.

The move went fairly easy. We got everything in the flat, my dad and sister stayed a little while before setting off back to Hull.

I didn’t really do much yesterday asides from unpacking and going food shopping with Josh.

I’m feeling much more settled today, most of my stuff is unpacked and in place. I have been asked to have some coffee shop training next Monday-Wednesday which is exciting. You all know how much I love coffee!  I managed to register myself at the doctors too, that makes me feel a bit more at ease for when I need to get some more medication.

I also had a bit of time to walk along the seafront. It was just so beautiful. I will definetely be spending more time down there when the weather gets a bit warmer.

I’m so glad that I have made the decision to move down here. I think this is going to be a really positive step for me.

How is your week going?

I’m Moving to Kent.

I'm Moving

So, I’ve been keeping this quite quiet for a little while now. I’m so happy that I can now tell everyone about it!

At the beginning of March I will be moving in with my boyfriend. It’s going to be so great to see him everyday rather than just once a month. I can imagine that going from being long distance to living together will present a few issues, but I’m so confident that we are both going to love it.

I’m so excited to start this next chapter of our lives together. I’m looking forward to sharing this new part of my life with you all.

Do you have any advice for moving in with your boyfriend? It would be greatly appreciated.

– Hannah ❤
